  • Ladies and Gentlemen....I've finally joined the pimply-faced geeks and gaming afficionados of the world. Yes, that's right. I just got XBOX live. There's nothing quite like having your ass handed to you on a platter time and time again by 13 year-old losers who have nothing better to do than play Halo 2 all day and all night, searching for mediocre players such as myself to slaughter with ease and delight. Sigh.

I shall have my revenge, however, as I gaze upon them in the fast food line, working feverishly to fill the busy lunch rush orders, while dreams of sniper rifles and fragmentation gre nades dance eerily through their little peebrains.

In other news, I'm thinking of putting off law school for a year. I just don't feel as though I'm ready, and I want to take the LSAT again. Improve on my score. Kick some LSAT hiney and move forward with utter confidence instead of the "yeah, well...I think I did well enough" confidence I'm packing now. I feel this pressure to get going and "stop wasting time"...but when I think about it, why is that? Who cares. This is life and it's meant to be lived. Law school and a law career can wait, if that's what I'm meant to do. Woot woot.

Just on the tail end of a 14-hour overnight shift, so I'm out of here. Going home to sleep. Ahhh, who am I kidding, I'm going home to play XBOX. Live. Oh yeah.

    Tschuss! ... Drew.

  • It snowed in Calgary last night. I just don't get the weather here. Yesterday I drove to work with the windows down, music playing, wind blowing through my hair (okay, I don't have hair, but it sounded right). And by the end of the evening, everything was covered in two inches of snow.  Where's the logic in that? It feels like some sort of post-apocalyptic, pre-Pevensies Narnia.

In other news, I'm wearing my comfy boxers today. And, I tore a hole in my jeans at "Rec Night" last night. I tell you, never underestimate the will and determination of a little, cute, 120-lb. woman in Dodgeball. Never. She rocked my world. And tore a hole in my jeans.

    Ben Folds is great.

  • I nearly fell asleep at the wheel several nights ago, on my way home from a friend's house.

    Very tired was I.

I have, however, discovered a remedy for behind-the-wheel-tiredness. If
you shove your pinky finger up your nose, almost as far as you can, it'll make
you sneeze. And, I've found that a good sneeze, besides covering the
windshield in mucous, is good for a good three to four minutes of
    alertness.

I'm not saying it's cool, and it's embarrassing to admit, but I feel as
though it's my duty to impart this slightly distasteful, albeit useful,
bit of wisdom to those who may at some point need it.

Coffee, schmoffee....it's all about digging for.....sneezes.

  • Movie Review: Transamerica

I had the fortune--nay, the privilege--to see 'Transamerica'
tonight. It's one of those movies that leaves the theatre with you and
won't let you be. It challenges what you might consider to be the
norm, and to consider just how easy your own life truly is,
    regardless.

The plot line is certainly the tried and true formula of the
transformational road trip, yet the irony of Bree's concurrent sexual
transformation freshens a story that could easily have been clich?
Kevin Zegers and the rest of the supporting cast are superb, but
Huffman's characterization of Bree is Oscar caliber.

See Transamerica! It's not tragic like "Boys Don't Cry". It's not about
sexuality, fetish, or camp. It's a movie about otherness,
transformation, family, and ultimately acceptance. Felicity Huffman's
Golden Globe winning performance is absolutely astounding. Her acting
skill fills Bree with insecurity, pathos, warmth, humor, and growth
which ultimately transforms the audiences involvement from freak show
curiosity to empathy and identification. (excerpt taken from www.imdb.com).

Two thumbs up. Five stars. Whatever it is that you give a really superb film.

  • See the faces of Canadians everywhere who are excited.
     That the Conservative Party won.
     See me being sarcastic.
     Like...really, really sarcastic.
I think Steven Harper dislikes me personally.

I'm going to go wallow in self pity.
And drink.....an Orange Crush, sweetened with Splenda.

I bet Steven Harper dislikes beverages sweetened with Splenda.
